Please find below the Selection Criteria and Role Statement for players trialing for the 2015 U19 Australian Women’s Underwater Hockey team.

 

The selections will be held at the Australian Championships in Sydney on Friday the 25th January.

 

POSTAL NOMINATIONS - players wishing to nominate who cannot attend the selections must submit a postal nomination. This nomination must be in writing to the Coach – Chris Wenman cwenman [at] amrshire [dot] we [dot] gov [dot] au and received no later than 9pm AEST on Thursday 24th January. This postal nomination should include the player’s history, experience, skills and strengths and training plan.

AUSTRALIAN U/19 WOMENS UNDERWATER HOCKEY TEAM CRITERIA

Fitness Test For Selection:

  • Beep test to minimum level 6
  • 200m swim in under 2 mins 50 secs (2.50)
  • 100m swim in under 1.20
  • 50m swim in under 0.40
  • 25m swim in under 0.18
  • 25m u/w in under 0.20

Selection Criterion for the U19 Men’s team

Attitude

  • Willingness to learn and work hard to achieve team’s goals.
  • Positive attitude and respect for all team mates and coach.
  • Willingness to work constructively as part of a team
  • At all times provide support and encouragement to all team mates.
  • Commitment to training and improvement.
  • Ability to push and self-motivate.
  • The ability to work well in high-pressure situations.

Fitness

  • Willingness to do all prescribed training.
  • High level of fitness.
  • Understanding of training required and injury prevention strategies.

Strategy/experience

  • Understanding of and ability to play different game plans/styles at short notice.
  • Anticipation and reading of opposition play – Show an awareness of what's happening around them and an ability to react to changing conditions.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to team-work – Effectively using team-mates and setting up play, double teaming, second and third efforts.

Puck skills

  • Possession skills – able to maintain possession in contested play and clever/safe disposal of puck to team mates.
  • Flicking – accurate, consistent and smart.
  • Direction changing skills: Able to change direction quickly and at the correct time, without losing possession.
  • Goal smart – effective use of puck and team-mates around goal.

 

2015 SELECTION CRITERIA – AUSTRALIAN U23 WOMEN

COACH – NINA BARRY-MACAULAY

Players selected MUST meet the Selection Criteria.

Players must ASPIRE to embody and practice ALL skills outlined in the Role Statement.

 

The selections will be held at the Australian Championships in Sydney on Friday the 25th January.

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated ability to play and understand the roles and responsibility of a diamond game plan.
  2. Demonstrated high level of both game and individual skills.
  3. Demonstrated high level of commitment to contribute to a winning Australian Team.
  4. Demonstrated high level of fitness or commitment to reach the level required to play at an international level.

Role Statement

  1. The player will have a working knowledge of the game plan including the ability to clear the puck wide in defense, scoring through the middle channel, wings blocking the exits when attacking the tray, three-way rotation in defense and;
    • Play both a closed wall game and open lateral game;
    • Work effectively using other players and setting up team play, double teaming, second and third efforts;
    • Play to what is happening around them and an ability to react to changing conditions, to read the play and make creative and smart decisions, to generate play; and
    • Initiates switches/45's and effectively move the play away from congestion.
  1. The player will have strong possession skills that allow them to be able to maintain possession in contest and clever/safe disposal of puck to team mates; they will
  • Have a flick that is accurate, consistent and placed into smart spots.
  • Be able to display skills that allow for quick change of direction and at the correct time, without losing possession; and
  • To move and hold the puck without looking at it during play.
  1. The player must have a commitment to scoring with hunger and drive on the attacking goal tray;
  2. Positive attitude and respect for team mates and coach; taking on board direction; providing support and encouragement; perpetuating positivity;
  3. Commitment to training and improvement;
  4. Ability to push and self-motivate; and work well in high pressure situations.
  5. The player must aspire to Elite level fitness by the time of the competition;
  • Have the ability to complete several training sessions in one day; and

Have an understanding of training required and injury prevention strategies.


2015 SELECTION CRITERIA – AUSTRALIAN ELITE WOMEN’S SQUAD

Please find below the Selection Criteria for players trialing for the 2015 Elite Women’s Australian Underwater Hockey training squad.

 

The selections will be held at the Australian Championships in Sydney on Friday the 25th January.

 

POSTAL NOMINATIONS - players wishing to nominate who cannot attend the selections may submit a postal nomination in writing to Eden Brown edenbrown63 [at] yahoo [dot] com. This postal nomination should include the player’s history, experience, skills and strengths and training plan.

  • January 25th, 2015 – First Round of Selections - Training squad is selected (approx. 20 players)
  • March 28th / 29th 2015 – Squad Training Camp, Tasmania
  • July 11th / 12th 2015 – Squad Training Camp, Tasmania
  • 2015 INT’L COMPETITION TO BE CONFIRMED
  • October – Second Round of Selections – Full team of 12 selected plus 2 reserves
  • Nationals (TBC in December, WA) - Training Camp preceding Nationals
  • March 23rd – April 2nd CMAS WORLD TITLES – Training Camp preceding

 

Nominations into the team will remain open until the final round of Selections in October.  Two postal nominations will be considered as per the by-laws.

 

Selection Criteria

The player will demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Working knowledge of the 3,2,1 game plan including the ability to clear the puck wide in defense, scoring through the middle channel, three-way rotation in defense and;
  • Play a closed wall game and open lateral game; know when to hold or open up play;
  • Work effectively using other players and setting up team play, double teaming, second and third efforts;
  • Adapt to what is happening around them and react accordingly, read the play effectively, make creative and smart decisions, generate play and initiate switches and 45's and effectively move the play away from congestion.
  • Strong possession skills that allow them to maintain possession in contest and consistently produce safe disposal of puck to team mates;
  • A flick that is accurate and consistent;
  • Ability to display skills that allow for quick and timely changes of direction move and hold the puck without looking at it during play;
  • A commitment to scoring with hunger and drive on the attacking goal tray;
  • Ability to push and self-motivate; work well in high pressure situations and have an understanding of training required and injury prevention strategies.
    (Skill set must be at a National level ready to be developed to meet Int’l standards.)

2015 SELECTION CRITERIA – AUSTRALIAN ELITE MENS SQUAD

The selections will be held at the Australian UWH Championships in Sydney on Friday the 25th January.

 

POSTAL NOMINATIONS - players wishing to nominate who cannot attend the selections may submit a postal nomination in writing to the Coach – Stewart Parkinson parkostew [at] hotmail [dot] com. Postal nominations should include the player’s history, experience, skills and strengths and training plan.

  • X Factor – 2nd/3rd Efforts / 1 on 1’s / doesn’t give up easy / aggression
