The athlete Selection Criteria for the Elite Australian Underwater Hockey teams that will participate in the 2018 CMAS World Championships held in Vancover, Canada is now available.
The sport specific athlete selection criteria will be utilised in the identification, ranking and selection of athletes for Australian open and women elite teams, it can be downloaded at: AUS UWH Athlete Selection Criteria 2018
Underwater Hockey Australia (UHA) seeks applicants for the position of Australian Team Coaches (Masters Women and Men). The position is for Quebec, Canada Worlds 2018.
Interested applicants should download complete the UHA Coach Application Form.
Applications should be sent to Kathryn Howard, Secretary, Underwater Hockey Australia (secretary@underwaterhockeyaustralia.org.au).
Applications will close 22.9.17 and applicants will be advised by mid-October.
There was a buzz at The Hobart Aquatic Centre over last weekend as selections were held for the age group teams heading to New Zealand for the Trans Tasman Competition in July 2014.
This years selections were particularly exciting. In 2014 Australia will field all four age groups, with the first ever selection of a U23 Women team to complete the set. The buzz in the air culminated in whiteboards full of arrows and courts full of enthusuatic players aiming to impress.
As always the event was excellently organised and facilitated. The weekend involved selectors, coaches, speakers and guest mentors providing the highest level of training, advice, critique and support for Australia’s next generation of underwater hockey players.
The excitement in Hobart was perhaps heightened by the omnipresent Aged Group Worlds in 2015. An event certainly in the minds of coaches and players involved in the weekend.

Totally Wild filming at Gold Coast Nationals 2014
It is an exciting time to be a junior in the Australian underwater hockey community. The development of junior involvement both at a national and international level has risen substantially over the past decade, and continues on an exciting incline. More over, our junior’s are exposed to celebrity opportunities, like those experienced by Caleb Thomas, Perri Adkins and Tom Robinson at the recent National Championships held on the Gold Coast.
During the tournament, Caleb, Perri (captains of the QLD U15 team), and Tom (captain of the VIC U15 team) were interviewed by host of the TV show Totally Wild. In their poolside interviews, the three captains explained to Totally Wild viewers exactly how our crazy sport works, and why it’s so much fun!
Their interviews will contribute to Totally Wild’s ‘underwater hockey story’, which airs this Saturday, March 8th at 8am on channel 11. After this episode goes to air, it will then be available to watch online at: http://tenplay.com.au/channel-eleven/totally-wild

Graham Henderson presents Lena Plambeck with AUF Best Sportsperson Award
At the recent National Championships held in Palm Bach, Queensland, Lena Plambeck was presented with the Australian Underwater Federation’s prestigious annual prize: Sportsperson of the Year.
Originally a New South Whales player, Lena represented the West Australian Women’s team at this years Nationals. Her experience is extensive, Lena has played for and captained several Australian teams and sports a handful of gold medals and championship trophies. However, it is not only these successes which won her this award.
The AUF Sportsperson of the Year is adjudicated on the following sub categories.
Over the course of Lena’s underwater hockey career, she has excelled. All who know her can easily understand her eligibility for this nomination. Lena is a deserving recipient, having dedicated much of her experience and expertise in underwater hockey to the development of the sport and its players.
The 2014 Australian Underwater Hockey Championships at the Palm Beach Aquatic Centre from 23rd to 27th January.
The five day event saw 25 teams across five divisions slug it out at one of the best Underwater Hockey pools in Australia.
The tireless work of Tournament Organiser, Russell Cox, and his colleagues on the Queensland Underwater Hockey committee ensured that the tournament ran seamlessly. Through its administrative excellence Queensland has set an exceptionally high standard for future National Championships.

Details have been announced for this years Trans Tasman Competition.
The Tournament will be held at the Kilburnie Pool in Wellington, New Zealand from the 5th – 13th July, 2014. Australia hopes to fill four teams in the following categories:
U19 Men – Coach: Steve Cleary (TAS)
U23 Men – Coach: Nick Martyn (TAS)
U19 Women – Coach: Chris Wenman (WA)
U23 Women – Coach: Nina Barry-Macaulay (VIC)
Selections for these teams will be held at the Gold Coast Nationals in January, 2014. Postal nominations will be accepted from those unable to attend. All prospective players must nominate to play. This involves participation in selections or postal vote, a $150 nomination fee, and the completion of nomination forms.

Alongside this, Sandra Milner (TAS) has been re-appointed as Team Manager for the Australian Junior Teams.
The coaches and team manager will serve a two year term, which includes this years Trans Tasman competition and the 2015 World Championships. Selections for the Junior teams will be held at the approaching Gold Coast Nationals.
The appointment of coaches for Elite teams has been delayed due to a change in the World Championships, where the Juniors and Elite/Master divisions have been split over two years. The next Elite/Masters World Championships will be held in 2016.
